Sixty nine political parties took Saturday the 2009 elections registration form, but five parties did not show up in the General Elections Commission (KPU) on the last day to take the form.

The five parties that did not take the registration form were the Gotong Royong Party, the Star Crescent Party, the Patriot Party, the Marhaenis National Party, and the Unitary Republic of
Indonesia Party.

Center for Electoral Reform (CETRO) chairman Hadar Navis Gumay said should the KPU implement its rule, the five parties would not be permitted to take part in next year’s election.

Meanwhile, the 69 parties are given more than one-month period from April 8 through May 12 to fill in the registration form and return it to KPU.

The 2009 general elections will be held on April 5 next year. Presidential election will follow in the same year but the date has not yet been decided. (***)
